Life in the Fast Lane

While this sign points out what most of us consider an obvious rule of the road, it is apparant everyday that some people should not be behind the wheel of a car!

The more I drive the more I am annoyed by drivers who dont follow the basic rules of highway driving. One of the most obvious rules is that SLOWER TRAFFIC STAYS TO THE RIGHT! Is this concept not being taught any longer or what?? Lately I find that I can drive faster in the slow lane than I can in the fast lane.

Here I have copied a segment from a driver education site. People...read and go out and spread the word!!:
"Use the far left lane of a multi-lane freeway to pass traffic moving slower than the speed limit, but don't stay there. Drive in the right-hand lane when possible. On many freeways with three or more lanes in each direction, trucks cannot travel in the far left lane and must use the lane to the right for passing. Get into the habit of driving in the right lane, leaving the other lanes clear for passing."

Even Homeless Have Values

Today as I was walking to lunch in the city I saw two young kids about 6 years old dancing on a street corner to a boom box playing "Rockin' Robin". There was a heavy-set woman sitting nearby manning the boom box. As I waited to cross the street there was a homeless man standing next to me who I thought was talking to himself, and actually may have been. When I actually listened to what he was saying I realized that he was all worked up about the woman using her kids to make money on the street. He was saying something like "What kind of mother uses her kids to make money. Why doesnt she get out there and work herself."
It actually made me look at that homeless man a little differently. Maybe we all should voice our opinions more openly!

Do You Feel Lucky Punk? Well do ya?

How long do you think you can get away with it? There is evil lurking in your kitchen cabinet! Trans Fats!!!!!!!

We all have times when we are hungry and just want something to eat quickly. Many of the foods we normally choose are full or Trans Fats which have been proven to block your arteries and increase your risk of heart disease.

When I think of all the kids, or us adults for that matter, who chow down on McDonalds, chips, crackers, Mac&Cheese, I am visualizing their little arteries getting all clogged up. Yikes!

My friend Rosendo is pretty hard core about Trans fats and gave me some quick tips on the subject. It is pretty easy to take some steps to cut Trans Fats out of your diet. Just read the labels of your groceries and look to see if Trans Fats are listed. Trans fats are also known as Trans fatty acids, shortening, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, or hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Below is a list of items that contain Trans fats (you need to read the labels as there may be exceptions):
- Most breaded chicken tenders
- Some spice mixtures and marinades
- Many pastas
- Bisquick
- Most Ice creams
- Crackers – saltines, ritz, cheese-its, etc.
- Cookies
- Chips
- Probably anything from a fast food restaurant!
- Non-Dairy Creamers

Here are notable and surprising exceptions:
- Oreos
- Breyers and Ben and Jerrys ice creams
- Plain potato chips (not BBQ!)
- M&Ms
- Hersheys plain chocolate bars
- Velveeta
- Goldfish

So, you see, You don’t necessarily have to give up all the yummy foods to give up Trans Fats.

Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat

Here is another mystery that I just havent been able to figure out ...
Why do bad smells attach themselves to everything we own permanently but the good smells that we TRY to get to stick are gone in 5 minutes?? I've had bouts with throw-up, smoke, poop, and other not-so-nice smells and nothing seems to cover them up. What is to be done??

Night Security

To follow up on the last post, the answer to the question "What occupation was the customer who ordered 10 shots of espresso...

a night security guard.

You see, since Starbucks isnt open 24/7 the night security guard orders a 10 shot espresso and makes it last throughout the night by reheating it. A person has to stay alert!

Esspresso - Comforting goodness or lethal killer?

Have you ever had too much caffeine and got a little shaky and felt your heart beating faster--like it was going to jump right out of your chest? After watching a co-worker order a latte with 4 shots of esspresso and hearing that he had a depth-charge (3 shots of esspresso with coffee) earlier in the day I was bound to consider this...Is there a lethal amount of caffeine?

We asked out barrist, "Do you have a limit to the number of shots you will serve someone"? (Thinking that this must be similar in someway to a bartender cutting off a drunk patron) Our answer was "No, there is no limit". So, naturally we followed up with, "Well, what was the most number of shots you have served to someone"? The answer was "10". Ten!!

How many shots would it take for your heart to explode? Discuss.

Extra credit: What occupation was the customer who ordered 10 shots?

Why?

There is a saying "Ours is Not to Reason Why, ..." but I think ours is to Reason Why! How can you help but question everything that goes on in this mad, mad world. This blog is meant to address the many Questions, Observations, and Ponderings that we experience every day. Hey, maybe we will find a few answers along the way!
